Using too much detergent creates an buildup of soap residues in the washing machine, which will start to stink.

To clean the machine, start a 90-degree program; after about 5 minutes add half a liter of cleaning vinegar through the detergent drawer, let the program run to completion, and check the drum for any soap residues.

To prevent this in the future, for a full machine use 25 ml of liquid detergent or 2 tablespoons of washing powder.
